BILL HAINES
On the 22nd April, Mr William 'Bill' Haines aged 37 years old when he was found unresponsive on his cell floor at 10am on Monday 27th April 2021 at Cessnock correctional centre.
Mr Haines was a proud Bundjalung and Gomeroi nations man.
Mr Haines death was the 7th Aboriginal death in custody since the beginning of March which coincided with the 30th Anniversary of the royal Commission into Black Death In Custody.
"It took (7) seven days before our family were able to formally identify his body", says Reninya Roberts - Family Representative/Spokeswomen.
Mr Haines lost his Mother Leanne when he was a young boy. His grief stricken Father Roy moved to Moree with his then two young sons.
